Education Week 2014
10202014_105256_2.jpg
From October 19-25, 2014, we will celebrate Education Week with the theme “Supporting and Celebrating Success”.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Education Week 2014!

THIS WEEK IN HORIZON
Kevin C. Garinger – Director of Education

Hello everyone. It’s hard to believe we are in the third week of October, given the unusually warm weather. Many of you are approaching your first reporting period and assessment is in the forefront of the work you are doing. As we focus on essential questions of where our students are at in terms of their learning, we have the opportunity to begin to address learning needs more directly through the data we glean from sound assessment practices. It is the time when we start to recognize which best practices are supporting which students and which practices need to be adjusted, revised and rethought to meet the needs of students who are not yet where we hoped they might be at this point in their learning. A lot of preparation and has been done in the training and retraining of our teachers in the Fountas and Pinnell benchmark assessment tool. Once this training is completed, our literacy data will demonstrate areas of success and areas of growth. In order for each of our students to meet their goals, we must use accurate data to address literacy needs strategically and specifically. It is my expectation that in sharing our accurate data, we will also share pedagogical practices with colleagues in our collaborative groups and among our staffs. This is a prime time for teachers to have conversations about how we are reporting learning to our parents as we all know that consistency and accuracy are crucial in communicating where children are at.
